CAD Project Assessment Announced

CAD Modeling “Final” Rubric

THEME:

Option 1) Design your own attachment for Havenlabs Utility Band or Gaunlet
Option 2) Design your own 2nd Life for a pop bottle

Objective Criteria:

Does the model contain diverse features (i.e. revolve, extrude, sweep, fillet, patterns, construction planes etc.)
·         100 for 6 or more different features
·         90 for 5 different features
·         80 for 4 different features
·         70 for 3 different features

Does the model utilize appropriate control methods to ensure sketches are clean and well defined (i.e. use of constraints, sequential sketches in timeline, dimensions defined)
·         100 for 75 – 100% defined sketches
·         90 for 50 – 74% defined sketches
·         80  for 25 – 49% defined sketches
·         70 for 0 – 24% defined sketches

Is the model free of unused sketches, errors and redundant features? (Steps in the timeline yellow or red, lines not utilized for 3D features, etc.)
·         100 for no problems
·         90 for 1 problem
·         80 for 2 problems
·         70 for 3 problems or more problems

Subjective Criteria:

Was their “design intent” captured in the CAD Model? (is the model oriented intuitively about planes, did they create their model in a logical order of sketches and features, is their model easily edited by using parameters/sketch dimensions, could their model be used/edited by other members of the class)
·         100 for all 4 criteria fully met
·         90 for 3 criteria fully met
·         80 for 2 criteria fully met
·         70 for 1 or less criteria met

Was there an extended application of their Fusion360 knowledge? (did they use features that weren’t taught, did they go beyond the basic methods shown within each feature to explore more efficient ways of modeling, is their evidence of “creative” problem solving)
·         100 for 3 or more examples of additional skills
·         90  for 2 examples of additional skills
·         80 for 1 example of additional skills
·         70 for zero examples of additional skills

**adapted from Bryan Kroh’s CAD Modeling Rubric 2014**

Requirements:

Part 1:  “Napkin Sketch.”  Brief description of the device including its purpose, target users, and any products that inspired its design.  Must include drawings/sketches of your product from the Front, Side, and Top views.  These sketches should include initial dimensions (these may later be changed as you model your product).  DUE Friday September 15th.  Please scan your drawings and send email with scans and description attached.

Part 2:  Rough Model.  Using everyday materials (could be recycled), construct a model, to scale, of your device.  This should be 3D and used as a reference as you 3D model your product in Fusion 360.  DUE Friday September 22nd.

Part 3:  Fusion 360 CAD Model.  Your CAD model must be created using the categories referenced in the rubric.  This part(s) must be shared with me.  Your part(s) are due October 1st at the latest as .STL files to be printed for Maker Faire Pittsburgh.  Those that move quickly will be allowed to iterate their design, ensuring it not only prints correctly, but functions as predicted.  DUE October 1st (yes this is a Sunday).

Students will begin to present their designs the week of October 2nd.
